Technology Entrepreneurship in UITM


Technopreneurship is a combination of two words, namely 'technology' and 'entrepreneurship'. In general, the technology is used to refer to the practical application of science to industry. While entrepreneurship is derived from the word entrepreneur refers to a person who creates a business / venture with the courage to risk to achieve profit and growth by identifying opportunities that exist

Technopreneurship in Malaysia involved in delivering an innovative hi-tech product and makes use of hi-tech in an innovative way to deliver product. This is also in aligning with ICT based environment. In the last two decades, Malaysia has witnessed a proliferation of local technopreneurs who have emerged to take advantage of the new technologies in the ICT, internet and mobile industries. In the Eight Malaysian Plan, the government has decided to boost the growth of SMEs in information and communication technology industry through its various assistance program. The commitment shows by the government to support entrepreneurial activity around the country is by having various programs such as incubation programs, education and communications program for technopreneurs to grow.

MTDC Technology Centre is one of the business units in Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) organisation which has been the first entity in Malaysia to set up a university/research institute-based technology centre in year 1992
The Centre, with a built-up area of 80,000 sq feet and developed on a 2.5-acre land, will house 35 incubators, office space, rooms for meetings, training and seminars, a cafeteria, a gymnasium and a gallery, among others. The center core focus is on industrial/creative design and nano technology.
